UP Education Launches $250,000 Future Scholarship for Chinese Talent

UP Education has launched a NZ$250,000 ‘Future Scholarship’ fund to support high-achieving Chinese students as part of the Prime Minister’s visit. The scholarship includes full-fee support for students entering foundation programmes in New Zealand, as well as new postgraduate options tailored to globally ambitious learners.

Formalises Partnerships Across Education Levels

The visit also marked the signing of three major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with key Chinese institutions:

  • Etonkids Educational Group: This partnership focuses on early childhood education, with collaborative teacher training and academic exchanges involving New Zealand Tertiary College.
  • Hangzhou No.2 High School: A new pathway initiative offers direct entry into the University of Auckland Certificate in Foundation Studies.
  • Beijing National Day School: The partnership includes direct admission offers and scholarship support for high-performing students, alongside regular outreach sessions with students and families.

“During this visit, we’re proud to be formalising new relationships with leading institutions at every level — from preschool to secondary and tertiary — and reinforcing the role private education plays in delivering life-changing opportunities for students,” said Rushworth.

UP Education exemplifies how private education providers can support national goals, with over 39,000 students across 64 campuses in New Zealand and Australia. “We’re also showcasing how New Zealand institutions can partner authentically and ambitiously with China for shared long-term benefit,” Rushworth added.
