Swedish furniture giant IKEA revealed that the store at Auckland’s Sylvia Park would open to the public on December 4.
The Sylvia Park store is poised to become one of IKEA’s biggest locations in the Southern Hemisphere, covering more than 34,000 square metres. The construction started in June 2023.
In August, the company provided an initial look at some of the most popular products that will be available at the new store. The products were chosen based on insights from IKEA’s Life at Home Report New Zealand, which explored the preferences and needs of Kiwis.
The selection featured items such as the Mackapär shoe rack, Kallax shelving unit, Billy bookcase, Uppdatera storage box, and IKEA 365+ food storage.

“Each product addresses real problems that many Kiwis are facing in their homes,” IKEA NZ home furnishing and retail design manager Edward Hincks said.
“They embody IKEA’s Democratic Design principles, where form, function, quality, sustainability, and affordability are built into every design decision.”
The store was also anticipated to offer the classic Swedish dishes found in its international restaurants, including the well-loved Swedish meatballs.
Ingka Group, which manages most of the IKEA stores worldwide, will operate the New Zealand branch.
