A barbecue-style restaurant in Ferrymead, Bison BBQ is set to serve its last meals before closing its doors later this month.
Opened about two years ago by owners Jon Feiler and Amber Popaite, Bison BBQ quickly gained a loyal following by offering American cuisine with a distinctive Kiwi twist.
However, Feiler earlier this week announced that he had made the “difficult decision” to open for the last time on September 13 before closing the business.
“It’s not necessarily the end … The reasons we’re closing down are pretty personal. I’m really only talking about it with close friends and family.”
“I’m so proud and thankful for what we did there and what we’ve done.”
The restaurant is currently up for sale, and he expressed that he would “love if somebody wanted to take that dream and run with it”.
He said there was no “financial motivation” behind the closure and that no one involved in the business would suffer any financial loss.
“It’s kind of a cop-out for us to blame the restaurant climate or the economic environment or anything like that. Our job is to figure out how to navigate that environment.”
“That hasn’t been a reason for me to close down,” Feiler said.
